Events that shape human history are resident as some part of the complex which makes up each person. We whose faith tells us that God is our Maker believe God is shaping the human race to fulfill God's ultimate design for the universe. So, I identify personally with the ancients and hold hope for the eternal becoming of our destiny.
"I am present
At the burning bush,
Receiving the Name sending me.
At the impossible sea trapped by armies
I look at the staff lifted.
And all that sojourn
To form the People of God
I travel 'til my unknown parents
Run away to save me in Egypt.
"Then You tell us
We all have to be Moses,
To lift up our crosses,
Heal the blind, raise the dead,
Break the fish and bread,
Eat You and be
Your Body.
"Partly in empires,
Partly in Canaan,
We cry liberation,
Do our commission,
Walk on Galilee,
Ask, "Is it now
We make You king?"
On earth as in heaven.
"Now we are present,
The cloud of witnesses not so far removed.
The bush is in us,
The staff,
The moments breaking out,
Escaping with the baby,
Still walking on and through seas,
To and from Egypt,
Our mirror darkly reflecting You,
Gazing to the sky intently,
Watching and praying,
Walking and waiting,
In uttermost parts;
And You forming us,
Still turning us
In Your hands."
